Question: I am have trouble determining my native style. I have taken the Spiritual Style test three times and have gotten three different results, and to my knowledge was answering straightforwardly each time. The first time I took the test was a few months ago online as part of the beta-testing process; the result was a scripture-driven style with a sharing lean. The second time I took the test was at the seminar in the Pittsburg area on 11/11; the results were a sensory style with a rational lean. The third time I took the style test was a few day later as I was sharing the test with our small group and I took it just to pass time while they were taking it; this time the result was mystical with a enthusiatic lean. One red, one green, one blue! At this point I am confused, which is really my native style. As I read the descriptions in "The 3 Colors of Your Spirituality" each one of these rang both true for me in part and not true for me in part. I know that it is important to know my "starting point" for both Level A and Level B learning. So how do I determine my true "starting point"?

Finding Mutual Mentor

Thank you Adam for you reply. It was very helpful for me.

I am now ready for a mutual mentor with the spiritul style of sharing. I registered my profile three weeks or so ago and have been waiting. Is there something more I need to do? Am I missing something? I am anxious to get started.

Re: Finding a Mutual Mentor

Hi Diann

Glad your results are now perhaps a little clearer.

In terms of Mutual Mentoring (MM), the friend finder on the site (blue menu above) is one way of looking for a possible MM partner. Though of course, at this early stage in the release of the book, those who listed their spiritual styles are quite thinly spread across the globe. I know of a few people who've connected with others in their area and perhaps by clicking on someone you find in the friend finder and dropping them a note via their contact form, you may be able to start a short-term MM process via Skype or email.

This will of course require you to have a copy of the MM guide in the How to Embrace The 3 Colors of Your Spirituality in Your World workbook or to download it from the MM page above.

Of course, for many people, they find a MM partner in their immediate world - perhaps a friend from daily life or a fellow church member. So I would encourage you to take a look around and see who you might like to connect with for brief season of growth. They may or may not have read the whole book and even may do the test and begin reading parts of it as you start meeting together for MM.

Please reply if you have any other thoughts or questions.

Blessings

A few suggestions

Hi Diann
First of all, congratulations, as it sounds like from all that you've said that you probably have quite a balanced spiritual profile and can therefore "inhale" the grace of God in a variety of forms in different places (much like my wife :-). The statistical scenarios along with your comment that you feel some affinity with each of the proposed native styles leads me to this likely conclusion.

However, here are some thoughts on your questions...
1. The first discrepancy is relatively easy to explain since the beta-testing survey was just a first impression result we developed that was not subject to the scientific norm that you now find on page 70 of The 3 Colors of Your Spirituality. This simply means that it did not fully take into consideration the way in which people generally tend to respond to questions related to the individual styles (this could only be done once we had lots of data). In most cases it worked quite well as a first impression because most people are not as balanced as you sound to be.

2. It may be that the difference in result between your two book tests comes from your highest styles perhaps having very close values, in which case a slight change in your responses would quite easily change what your native style appears to be. Again, this is more the exception than the norm as for most people, the results don't tend to be so balanced.

3. If you are really into numbers and would like to come up with a firmer picture of your longer term native style, there is a procedure you can follow (again, only necessary when the numbers are quite close at the top - not for the faint-hearted ;-)

Using your profile values on page 70...
- average your profile values for Sensory, Rational, Doctrinal (call that your average Rational value)
- average your profile values for Rational, Doctrinal, Scripture-driven (call that your average Doctrinal value)
- average your profile values for Doctrinal, Scripture-driven, Sharing (call that your average Scripture-driven value)
- average your profile values for Scripture-driven, Sharing, Ascetic (call that your average Sharing value)
- average your profile values for Sharing, Ascetic, Enthusiastic (call that your average Ascetic value)
- average your profile values for Ascetic, Enthusiastic, Mystical (call that your average Enthusiastic value)
- average your profile values for Enthusiastic, Mystical, Sacramental (call that your average Mystical value)
- average your profile values for Mystical, Sacramental, Sensory (call that your average Sacramental value)
- average your profile values for Sacramental, Sensory, Rational (call that your average Sensory value)

Then simply rank the resultant values as usual.

This procedure will tend to stabilise your results by drawing on each wing for a given style

I hope these thoughts may have been of some use.

Blessings in your ministry to others as they discover their antenna to God.
