Die Test-Phase steht im Zentrum der Vergangenheits-Dimension des Kreislaufs. An dieser Stelle schauen Sie zurück, um nüchtern Ihren bisherigen Wachstumsprozess zu überprüfen. Testen erfordert naturgemäß klare Maßstäbe, die sich außerhalb ihrer subjektiven Wahrnehmungen, Erfahrungen, Aktionen, Pläne oder Theorien befinden. Aus diesem Grunde können Sie in dieser Phase eigentlich nur mit Hilfe einer zweiten Person arbeiten – einem Wachstums-Partner, der bereit ist, Ihnen harte und bisweilen auch unbequeme Fragen zu stellen. Menschen, denen es am wichtigsten ist, einfach Dinge in Bewegung zu bringen (eine rote Tendenz) oder denen es ausschließlich darum geht, dem Heiligen Geist Freiraum zu geben (eine blaue Tendenz) empfinden die Test-Phase bisweilen als verschwendete Zeit oder gar als ungeistlich. Deshalb ist es bemerkenswert, dass ein Grund dafür, „alles zu testen, aber das Gute zu behalten“, von einem der größten Jünger Jesu darin gesehen wird, dass der Geist nicht gedämpft werden dürfe (1. Thessalonicher 5,19-21).

What are your personal expectations as you approach the NCD Survey in your church? What "signs of success" will you be looking for and how long are you prepared to work at it? How do you expect NCD will change your church? How do you expect it will change you?

If you have not already thought about these questions carefully, it could be helpful to do so before moving onto the 'Understand' stage of the cycle.

Perhaps some of the following paraphrases expressed by pastors approaching NCD may resonate with you:

Once upon a time... (a painful 'test'imony)

“The worship service has finished and the congregation has been sent out to minister in the world. While you are packing up your worship notes, you are approached by a lady you’ve seen around the chuch but never met. She introduces herself as Mary and tells you how much she enjoyed the service. In the course of discussion, Mary mentions that she used to sing every week in her previous church. Seeing Mary’s obvious love for God and based on her apparent experience, you sense that she just may be the answer to your prayers. After all, a couple of the other singers have recently transferred in their employment and the next few weeks are looking quite challenging. With some sense of peace given what seems to be a divinely appointed encounter, you ask Mary if she would be prepared to sing with you in next week’s service. With great excitement, Mary says “YES!”
